The Street Is the Classroom.
The Street Is the Classroom is an immersive street photography workshop for photographers who want to sharpen their eye, strengthen their editing, and learn by doing. This is not a theory-heavy class or a generic photo tour. It is a hands-on experience built around photographing in real time, with direct feedback, practical guidance, and thoughtful editing.
Led by Perry Hall, whose work has been published in The New Yorker and awarded First Place in the European Photography Award, Documentary category, this workshop is shaped by years of photographing, teaching, and building visual stories in the street. Co-founded Daylight School in Rome, Perry brings a grounded, real-world approach that helps photographers grow with confidence.
Each workshop is intimate by design, creating space for personal feedback, stronger conversation, and a more focused learning experience. Included with the workshop is the Street Is the Classroom Field Manual, a special guide created specifically for students to support their practice before, during, and long after the workshop.
By the end, you will leave with a stronger eye, a tighter edit, and a clearer sense of how to build a body of work that holds together.
Tuition is $750 per seat. A $250 deposit holds your seat, and the remaining balance is invoiced 14 days before day one. For $750, you get three full days on the street in a group capped at six, daily one-on-one critique of that day’s frames, the field manual not sold anywhere at any price, and a working method you keep for life. The $250 deposit reserves your place. Comparable three-day workshops run two to three times this amount with twice the students, making this a strong value for the level of access, feedback, and resources included. This tuition will not last the year.
Student Testimonials:
“Perry helped me feel very comfortable with street photography by showing how it is done, sharing his fabulous eye for seeing what can be so easily missed, providing tips, and doing this all in a fun and supportive manner. Three years later, I still think of Perry when I go out on the street to shoot and wish he were walking right next to me again.”

“Perry is an engaging, enthusiastic teacher, and endlessly patient. He worked with me until the flash finally clicked, something I’d struggled with for a while. His choice of shooting locations around Rio was clearly well thought out, each one offering something different to work with. His feedback throughout was honest and insightful, the kind that actually changes how you see a frame. A few days with him, and I came away shooting with a lot more confidence. Highly recommend.”

“He paid attention to everyone, encouraged us, and helped us step out of our comfort zones. Since then, I have frequently used the techniques I learned. Whenever I hesitate, Perry’s voice is always ringing in my head: Go, take that shot!”

"Perry Hall's street photography workshop in Rio de Janeiro has been one of the most rewarding learning experiences I've had behind a camera. We were a small group of just three people, which meant plenty of individual attention, thoughtful feedback, and space to experiment without feeling rushed. The three-day structure was a good length. Most importantly, the workshop pushed me beyond my comfort zone in a way that felt supportive rather than intimidating."
